Puff Twin Giveaway! Mini Comforter Tutorial w/ Dog Under My Desk

Puff Mini Comforter Tutorial by Dog Under My Desk

Since having the chance to play with Quilters Dream Puff, I can say it is by far my favorite puffy poly batting. It’s so much softer and more flexible than some of the stiffer high-loft poly battings, even those labeled “soft”, and you can quilt it up to 10” apart rather than 2-5” that other poly battings require. It’s about 1/3” thick, so you can easily add a second layer for more loft and still be able to quilt it on your sewing machine.

Since the craft size package is about the size of a yard of fabric, I just had to make little mini comforters for the pups. My dogs always prefer to snuggle in a blanket, even if it’s on top of their dog bed (or MY bed!) and it’s nice to have little blankets that are easy to wash and don’t take up a lot of room to store. These would also be super quick kid gifts! They are the perfect size for toddlers to drag around. They are also a great stash buster. If you don’t have a two yard cut, just add an extra seam instead of the fold and use two complimentary one-yard pieces!

  1. Well, I don't have a dog or a cat, but I live close to the SPCA in my area; and, if I won the batting, I would make a bed for the SPCA to use.

    1. That's sweet :)
Gidget (our office mascot) came from the SPCA and I think she would give you two paws up!!

  2. I don't currently have any pets, but my 3 cats always slept on my bed, or on me! So cozy! Some of my friends would love to have a pet quilt!

    1. My cat used to sleep on my head when I was younger. They are definitely snuggly :)

  3. My little girl, Dixie-Doo (a mixed beagle, terrier of some sort LOL), has her own bed for daytime, but at my bedtime, the "who gets the center and the pillow" games begin! Night after night, she waits (I think she can read clocks) and watches, and as soon as I head to bed, she runs past me at full speed and up her little steps (the bed is high) and does something of a canine swan dive into the center of the bed and just an impact, she stretches out, so her head is on my pillow and she is literally half the length of the mattress, from nose to tail tip, with legs spread to take up as much room as possible. LOL I kid you not, because this sets up stage 2 of the "best spot" battle! So as I try to slide in and roll her over, she gets all wiggly and happy, which makes me start laughing and I lose the strength to roll her to the bottom of the bed. Then she knows she's got me where she wants me, and as I'm laughing, she gets in my face and manages at least one, but usually two, "kisses" across my nose or cheek or chin! Ultimately, she will settle down only after I've struggled to get a reasonable section of the bed, and she can roll up against me and lock me under the covers. I finally will win my pillow back, but she generally gets the center of the mattress. Now with the weather so chilly, she keeps trying to crawl under the blanket, or at least bury her head, which means I wake up several times shivering. So I either need to make her a blanket of her own, or make me one! LOL (But I know Dix, she'll want mine anyway. LOL)

    1. Awww. Dixie-Doo sounds so cute! Gidget always sleeps with my 7 yr old daughter at night. Like Dix, she knows when it's bed time and waits patiently for the call to come into her room for bed. She doesn't care to sleep on my bed as much she loves my daughter's. She probably feels like she's protecting her :)

    2. Gidget is a great protector from the sound of it. It's so sweet when they love "their" human kids and take good care of them, watching over them. My mom had a boxer mix when she was young that would keep her baby sister in the yard and safe by biting on her diaper (gently) and pulling her away from the sidewalk and keep her near the house. Dogs are wonderful! :-)

  4. Our puppy sleeps under the blankets with her head on my pillow like she's a person. The other dog is in her crate, and the cats get the couches.

  5. Our weenie dog snuggles at the foot of our bed. By nature, dachshunds love to dig and she loves snuggling in a blanket so I need to make her a new one!

    1. I just got a weenie dog ornament for my tree! haha. I love when my dog rustles with her blanket trying to make the perfect spot to snuggle in.

  6. Our little dog, a six year old terrier mix, has her own bed but joins us in ours - which also contains our four year old daughter and sometimes even our lab and our cat!

  7. Hannah, my 13 year old Yorkie, and I share the couch. She has her end, and I have mine. At the current moment, she has one flannel quilt and two large fleece blankets piles up on her end, and I have none. She loves to burrow into the pile of blankets so you can't see her, and then pretty soon, you will start to hear really LOUD snores. (I think she may be just a *little* bit spoiled.)

    1. Isn't it funny how such a tiny animal can SNORE sooooo loud??? Gidget who's a Shih Tzu cracks us up in the office when she's napping!

  8. I currently have 1 pooch, Sheldon the greyhound. He has his own beds, with lots of blankets {minky, quilts, etc} on top so he can nest. Not a furniture boy, so I figure if blankets make him happy, he can have them!

    1. Sheldon sounds adorable. I can just picture an elegant greyhound nesting on a pile of blankets. My boy Quinn has more quilts than I do. :)

    1. Sounds like your three cats have it all worked out. One to keep watch, one to keep your feet warm and one to keep your head warm.

  10. I don't currently have pets, but I have two little boys that love to pretend that they are "baby puppies." I would love to make them a day gratitude bed!

  11. I have a bichonpoo and have made quilts for him since we first picked him up. He sleeps with at least one every night. He usually carries one around throughout the day and evening. They have to be flannel and he will always bring one to any visitor who comes to the house.

  12. I make pads for rescue animals and shelter animals. They really like a soft place to lay. Thanks for the giveaway

  13. We have a 12-year old black lab who has a very cozy bed and a "grand-dog," our son's 2-year old blue heeler. Whenever he visits he snuggles up to our lab, Ollie, to an extend that he pushes him nearly off his bed. I would make a bed for this little rascal.

  14. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats and one hubby...all of us usually pile into one king size bed... :) All of them are rescues and come with their own stories and personalities (well...the hubby wasn't a rescue, but he sure has personality)...I am often buried in fur :) The dachshund has to always be under a blanket..no matter where she is...the big chihuahua is switching off being under the blanket or on top...one cat at my feet (under the blanket) often two around my head and one grumpy cat sleeps on my husbands side...thank goodness for that :)
